Non Viet

Vietnamese, 609 Great Western Rd, Glasgow G12 8HX

£81.20 for two soft drinks, one beer, and two mixed set menus

From the moment we sat down at Non Viet, we knew we were in for a good evening. It was our first visit, and since we had never been before, we decided to go all in with the mixed set menu, which felt like the best way to get a real sense of what the restaurant does well. Thankfully, it more than delivered.

We opted for the meat version, and honestly, the sharing platter alone was worth the visit. It arrived piled high with fresh, flavour-packed barbecue pork summer rolls, barbecue pork with noodles at the centre, crisp fried fish cakes, and chicken and prawn spring rolls that disappeared far too quickly. Portions were generous, everything tasted fantastic, and we were genuinely delighted from the outset.

One thing that really stood out was how authentic the food felt. Basil has spent over a month travelling in Vietnam, and he said this was the closest he has come in Scotland to truly authentic Vietnamese food. That is high praise, and not something we say lightly.

For mains, we chose the chicken coconut curry and the caramelised pork belly with egg, served alongside jasmine rice and pak choi with garlic. While the sharing platter was the clear highlight of the meal, these were still solid, satisfying dishes we thoroughly enjoyed.

Dessert was where opinions diverged. We shared the fried ice cream, which Basil felt lacked a bit of flavour, while I actually really enjoyed it. Drinks, however, were a definite win. The homemade lemonade was refreshing, and the mango milkshake was nothing short of incredible.

All in all, Non Viet gave us a memorable first visit, with standout sharing dishes, generous portions, and flavours that felt refreshingly authentic. We will definitely be back, and next time we will not hesitate to order that sharing platter again.
